Macy’s recently wrapped a back to school-themed contest that was built around “mommy bloggers.”The retailer tapped the five members of popular online community CafeMom as contestants in an “mBlog and CafeMom Blogger Contest.” The bloggers competed for a $1,000 store gift card and three-month writing engagement on the chain's official “mBlog.”Running Aug. 27 through Sept. 14, the contest had three rounds. During the first round (Aug. 27 through Sept. 1), contestants were armed with $100 gift cards and charged with shopping for their child’s fall wardrobe at Macy’s. Videos detailing their purchases were posted on Macy’s' YouTube channel (see video below) and promoted through Facebook and Twitter. Entries were scored by public voting as well as the number of views, likes and retweets they generated. The second round (from Sept. 4-7) required contestants to create a Pinterest board showcasing “mom on the go” fashion inspirations using content from macys.com. In addition to public voting, scoring was based on the number of likes and repins generated, with the two contestants receiving the lowest cumulative scores eliminated from the competition. The remaining contestants completed round three (Sept. 10-14) by writing a guest post for Macy’s' mBlog detailing their child’s first-day-of-school outfit and explaining what they did to prepare for the new year. Retweets, views and votes determined the winner.Consumers could vote through Macy’s' Facebook page, YouTube channel or mBlog as well as on cafemom.com. Each voter was automatically entered into a corresponding sweepstakes awarding a $500 store card.
