Meijer Drives Green with Avocados from Peru

Meijer recently wrapped a sweepstakes with the Peruvian Avocado Commission’s Avocados from Peru awarding one winner with a custom 2022 Tesla Model 3 electric car. Consumers in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio or Wisconsin could enter the sweeps from June 16 to Aug. 13 through a co-branded promotional website, MeijerAvoTesla.com. In stores, a security wrap and stanchion sign promoted the sweeps and depicted a QR code directing Meijer shoppers to the promotional site. Lidl ran its own version of the sweeps from July 1 through Aug. 31. Members of the myLidl loyalty program could enter by registering at LidlAvoTesla.com, following both the retailer and Avocados from Peru on Instagram, and tagging both accounts in a post with a photo or video showing how they eat avocados using #LidlAvoTeslaSweepstakes. "It's a true honor for us to partner with Lidl on this first-of-its-kind EV sweepstakes giveaway," Xavier Equihua, Peruvian Avocado Commission chief executive officer, said in a media release. "The theme of this sweepstakes is to encourage healthy and sustainable living as consuming avocados provide benefits to the body and the environment – just as EVs help to reduce pollution and carbon emissions." Meijer is also catering to electric car drivers by partnering with EVgo to add fast-charging stations to store parking lots starting last February. “Our partnership with EVgo provides another way for us to serve our community and further our commitment to sustainability,” Erik Petrovskis, Meijer director of environmental compliance and sustainability, said in a media release. “The EV charging stations provide a convenience to our customers and community, and we are excited to be a part of the transition to electric vehicles.” To learn more about the retailer's sustainability efforts, visit the "Cause/Community Programs" section of Meijer's retailer profile.
