Conde Nast Publications’ Teen Vogue has rallied a lineup of retailers and manufacturers to boil down the lengthy back-to-school shopping season to one day: “Back to School Saturday” on Aug. 11.Hoping to turn the day into a national shopping holiday a la Black Friday, the various partners are offering sales, free samples and events in stores and malls. Walmart, for example, teamed with Johnson & Johnson to promise a one-year subscription to Teen Vogue with purchase of two Clean & Clear or Neutrogena products through Aug. 31; Participants redeem by submitting a photo of their receipt to the magazine by email. Pallet displays, aisle violators, features in Walmart's July 15 and Aug. 5 circulars, and co-op ads in the August issue of Teen Vogue support. Among the 30-odd additional deals detailed on the magazine’s website:Staples dangles $5 off a $25 in-store purchase from Aug. 11-17. To redeem, shoppers present a coupon code available on Teen Vogue’s recently released “Insider App” for iPhones.Kohl’s promises 20% off any in-store or online purchase on Aug. 11 in another promotion that requires the “Insider App” for redemption.Gap offers 30% off any in-store or online purchase from Aug. 9-12.At select Macy’s stores, purchases of a large spray from the Burberry Women’s fragrance collection earn a free Burberry Brit or Burberry Brit Sheer cosmetics pouch including a small travel spray and body lotion.Purchases of two or more SKUs from Procter & Gamble’s CoverGirl, Olay, Pantene or Tampax Radiant from Aug. 11 through Sept. 10 (or while supplies last) earn a limited-edition Teen Vogue notebook. Consumers are instructed to upload receipts to the magazine’s website to redeem.Kimberly-Clark promises a limited-edition “Serious Attitude” bracelet with purchase of a U by Kotex product from July 3 through Sept. 15 (or while supplies last). For redemption details, consumers were sent to a webpage that was “not found” as of Aug. 8.Aeropostale promises 30% off and a free pair of sunglasses to shoppers who mention a promotional code at checkout on Aug. 11.Express dangles $15 off a $30 in-store purchase from June 25 through Aug. 11 via promotional code.Purchases of Kao Brands’ Biore skincare pore strips earn a free cleanser with a coupon that will be distributed in Sunday newspapers on Aug. 12.Many of the in-store offers requiring a promotional code can also be redeemed by presenting the deal on the Insider App at checkout.Other participants include American Eagle Outfitters, Guess, H&M, Maybelline New York, Pacific Sunwear of California, Quicksilver and Vans. All have agreed to do more business with Teen Vogue — in some combination of print and digital spending — in exchange for participation, according to The New York Times. The magazine’s back-to-school-themed August issue is chock-full of ads from the participants and editorial content featuring their product.
