Best Buy plopped a Geek Squad pop-up shop into Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport for the holidays.From Dec. 15-23, Geek Squad employees were available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the airport’s Terminal 3 to provide tech tips and gadget advice as well as free service on handheld devices. The shop also offered charging stations as well as tablets and desktop workstations for entertainment or last minute gift shopping. Some agents additionally walked the terminal with backpack charging stations to expand the service outside of the shop.“We depend on our phones, tablets and laptops whether we’re 30,000 feet in the air or at the gateway,” said president of Geek Squad Services at Best Buy, Chris Askew, in a media release. “So there is nothing more frustrating than technology troubles while you are traveling. That’s why we decided to give the gift of Geek Squad to travelers this holiday, and offer free services and advice, along with a well-deserved break.”Best Buy plugged the shop on Twitter employing a #MissionORD hashtag. The retailer also provided cutout standees for visitors to take selfies as Geek Squad employees and asked them to use the hashtag when posting the images.Visitors to the shop received passes for 24 hours of free Wi-Fi; some also got Geek Squad gift cards carrying various values.
