Epson Projects Interactive Video Onto Walls, Floors

Long Beach, CA -- Epson showcased a range of potential applications for its customizable "digital marketing solution" at StoreXpo in December. Capabilities include projecting images onto mannequins and other three-dimensional objects; projecting interactive promotional content onto floors, walls and other surfaces; and projecting displays onto windows.For the interactive displays, Epson projectors are configured with JesterTek motion-detection software, which instantly reacts to gestures and other movements to the extent that viewers can manipulate the projected content. For example, consumers might interact with projected images to access information about featured products at the point-of-purchase. For projecting images around corners or onto mannequins or other three-dimensional shapes, mathematical formulae and mirrors are used, says Barry Wise, a senior marketing consultant for Epson. Any projected content can be synchronized across multiple displays for comprehensive in-store promotions, Wise adds.Epson has about a dozen models of projectors that mount from the ceiling, floor or wall. Many feature onboard computers that download content updates from a central location. Epson works with clients to customize hardware and software configurations, develop content, and install the projectors and other necessary components. As such, cost varies widely.Projectors vary in size but are comparable to a compact DVD player.Epson also partnered with American Technology Corp. to incorporate sound-generation technology that broadcasts messages to consumers. The technology uses a directional ultrasonic column to guide sound precisely to the point of interaction.
