adidas InternationalHQ: Beaverton, Ore.Notes: Created in-store signage and sleek displays to support the launch of the Kobe Bryant basketball shoe in the first quarter of 2001. Produced 600 lenticular window banners promoting the SL shoe in Champs sporting goods stores. An additional 600 signs for Champs stores highlighted the launch of the Country Ripple shoe. The signs featured a three-dimensional design with Astroturf cutouts mounted to PETG to give the display a rugged, country look. A permanent display made of wire and steel with a removable header card supported the company's soccer Goalkeeper gloves. The unit held four different types of gloves as well as a sizing chart. In August, announced a redesigned Kobe Bryant basketball shoe, the KobeTwo, and an accompanying apparel line. In March, introduced 4,400 Bud NASCAR pit crew case stackers and 2,210 Michelob Light PGA Tour end aisle/stackers. In April, offered 3,560 Bud Hacienda case stackers. Kicked off summer 2001 in-store promotions for Bacardi Mixers with banners, umbrellas and recipe books. Rolled out 2,030 shelf glorifiers for Bacardi 8 in February and 1,000 pole toppers for Bacardi Mixers in May. In August, released two new, shelf-stable Bacardi Mixers packages. Because they require no refrigeration, the packages create a host of new display possibilities. Bayer Corp.HQ: PittsburghKey Brands: Bayer Aspirin, Alka-Seltzer, One-A-Day, Aleve, Bactine, Midol, Flintstones Vitamins, Bugs Bunny Vitamins, Phillips' M-O, Femstat, MycelexNotes: The Animal Health Business Group promoted the Advantage flea control product in veterinary clinics with a wall clock that featured a tail-wagging cat. In September, the company announced that it is planning to separate its healthcare and crop businesses into two separate divisions. Phillips' M-O launched a new mint-flavored laxative. In September, One-A-Day Vitamins launched two new brands, Scooby Doo and Extreme Sports chewables, with P-O-P including a shipper. The displays highlighted the brand's sponsorship of NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson and offered collectible die-cast cars on-pack. Distributed Keri "Buy 2 and Save!" displays for Wal-Mart in May. The side-by-side trays garnered a 60% sales lift for the brand in Wal-Mart stores, says Diane Rumsey, associate manager, specialization. Promoted Clairol Herbal Essences hair color in April with large standees designed for placement in movie theaters. Announced in May that it will sell the Clairol division to Procter & Gamble. In May, Heinz North America introduced Jack Daniel's Grilling Sauce, a new line of premium grilling sauces. Heinz will promote the national launch with an extensive marketing campaign. In August, Korbel promoted new XS and VSOP brandies targeted at younger consumers with posters, case cards and hang tags. This past summer, Southern Comfort hit store shelves with a new bottle design. Holiday-themed motion displays introduced in November promoted the Jack Daniel's family of whiskies. "For 2002, we plan to totally change the look of our P-O-P to capture our new label design," says Gervasio Cubenas, brand director for Bolla wines. "We plan to develop two new promotions for our retail efforts and continue to build on our sponsorship of Andrea Bocelli. A holiday promotion paired 7 UP with Keebler cracker and Cheez-It brands. Highlighted a Hawaiian Punch holiday promo, "Celebrate the Unique Taste of Red," with on-pack coupons and promotional packaging. Teamed up with Keebler for a winter "Eat, Drink and Be Merry" promotion offering free two-liter bottles of 7 UP with the purchase of two Keebler products. Holiday-themed pole signs and shelf talkers supported the promotion. Coinciding with an on-pack holiday promotion, Canada Dry promoted ginger ale with igloo and penguin standees placed in stores from October through December. The promotion, which coincided with a television commercial, included coupons and an offer for a free trial subscription to Time magazine. Shelf talkers and pole signs supported. Launched the "Set Your Table with Schweppes" holiday promotion for Schweppes tonic and ginger ale with coupons and a partnership with Real Simple magazine. Dr Pepper will team up with Nintendo for instant-win GameCube systems sweepstakes over the holidays. Inked a deal with AOL Time Warner that makes Coca-Cola the sole marketing partner for the Harry Potter movies. The $150 million Harry Potter campaign includes a "Reading is Fundamental" promotion and a Minute Maid Hi-C sweepstakes offering a visit to an English castle. In spring, promoted Dasani bottled water with countertop displays placed in Boston Market restaurants. In March, 5,000 Coca-Cola ice man coolers were rolled out. That same month, an additional 2,000 Dasani "wellness" displays with bins for cross merchandising were released. During September, the company tested Diet Coke with Lemon in the Midwest. The company also introduced Simply Orange, a new drink designed to compete against Pepsi-owned Tropicana. A spring promotion for Tetley's English Ale utilized motion displays that simulated beer flowing from a can to a glass. Rolled out 3,500 Corona Light neon signs in March and 850 three-dimensional, vacuum-formed Corona signs in April. That same month distributed 500 Tsingtao neon signs. Highlighted Barton Beers' St. Pauli Girl OctoBEERfest promotion with case displays, display cards and boxed collectible mugs. For the October Moon Festival, the Tsingtao brand produced a display with a free poster giveaway. Corona's "Grab One By the Neck" Halloween promotion featured the tropical Corona bird draped in a vampire cape, sunglasses and fangs. Banners, case cards, danglers, cooler stickers, base wrap, table tents, double-sided pennants and coasters supported. For winter, Corona dressed the same bird in skis for a "Make a Brewski Run" winter promotion. Similar P-O-P supported. The Tsingtao brand will launch a variety of display materials during the first quarter of the year to coincide with Chinese New Year. For the fall and into 2002, Barton Beers will hail Corona as the "Official Sponsor of the Timeout" at sporting events.Coors Brewing Co.HQ: Golden, Colo.Key Brands: Coors, Coors Light, Killian's, Blue Moon, Keystone, ZimaNotes: Rolled out 100 Coors Light horse racing neon signs and 650 Coors Light wall-mounted bottle openers for on-premise accounts in March. Followed up with 250 Coors Light backlit metal signs in April. The "Tourney Time" spring promotion rallied around college basketball announcer Dick Vitale and March Madness. Standees, price cards, cooler decals, counter cards and imprinted banners supported Coors. For the months of May, June and July, Coors continued its "ATM" promo for its fifth straight year giving consumers a chance to win music and other prizes by calling a phone number listed on a Coors "ATM" card packaged with Coors Light and Coors Original. Model Molly Sims graced P-O-P. Comedian Jamie Foxx was featured in an effort to strengthen the brand's market share in urban locations during a summer promotion. Counter cards, price cards and cooler decals were produced. Rolled out special bottles of Coors and Coors Light with necks shaped like footballs this fall for the football season. Coinciding, former quarterback Warren Moon signed on to promote a sweepstakes for a trip to a pro game. A simultaneous promotion, "Have a Field Day with Al Michaels," offers a chance to hang out with Al Michaels. CBS reporter Jill Arrington is slated to be on P-O-P for the Zima brand, targeted at a younger audience. Standees, counter cards, price cards with tear pads and other P-O-P support the launch. For the seventh straight year, Coors Light and Coors Original brands continued the Halloween promotion, "Queen of Halloween," with "American Pie 2" and "Thirteen Ghosts" star Shannon Elizabeth on standees, counter cards, aluminum danglers, banners, base wrap and a two-sided mobile. The promotion sought to raise $3 million for St. Jude's Research Hospital. For holidays, partnering with E. & J. Gallo Winery for product offers. Next year, Coors will continue to center its P-O-P on "Mega-theme" promotions for the Coors brands. Each promotion features a different celebrity and offers a sweepstakes. In August, the company announced a partnership with Madacy Entertainment Group to produce and distribute a line of music CDs under The Healing Garden name. A new alliance with Club Med will involve the launch of a line of men's and women's products in February with displays. The company will also work with Spanish candy company Chupa Chups to develop a Chupa Chups fragrances and cosmetics line, scheduled to debut in fall 2002.E. & J. In April, introduced 1,800 photo center pallet displays for Wal-Mart. In May, rolled out universal store fixture programs with consistent branding but modular design that can be customized to fit planograms for specific retailers. Meanwhile, Moen highlighted its water filtration system with a permanent counter display for hardware stores and home centers. In September, began shipping free, on-pack CD-ROMS with cereal boxes. Each CD featured interactive versions of Hasbro games, such as Monopoly Jr., Chutes and Ladders, Boggle, Operation and Ultimate Yahtzee. The company also introduced Chex Morning Mix cereal in single-serve pouches. Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix Bars were introduced at the All Candy Expo. Wire countertop displays and small, countertop display boxes accompanied the product launch. Launched air-puffed crispy corn chip called Wahoos, backed by $60 million campaign. In August, Yoplait announced that new Yoplait Expresse is a corporate marketing partner of LPGA. Yoplait Expresse, the spoonless yogurt in a squeezable tube, sponsors the LPGA Komen Award, which promotes breast cancer education. In September, the company debuted Duracell EasyTab batteries with a wide assortment of displays. Duracell will attempt a new form of merchandising. Instead of being pegged, battery packs will be placed in trays. A full rollout is expected in January. Inked a licensing agreement with The Walt Disney Co. to produce Oral-B Stages line of children's toothbrushes and toothpastes featuring Disney characters. Corrugated displays will accompany the launch and permanent displays are expected to follow. Just announced the introduction of MACH3 Turbo shaving system and a line of men's personal care products. Global rollout with P-O-P planned for April. "The company's motto is display, display, display," says Gino De Luca, director of permanent merchandising systems. Tennis great John McEnroe appeared in Heineken promotions during the 2001 US Open Tennis Championships in August and September. On- and off-premise standees, table tents, danglers and banners were used. In November launched a limited-edition 3-liter bottle of Heineken shaped like a champagne magnum. The bottle came in a holiday package and followed the beer company's tradition of special packaging. A recent deal with Disney will enable Kellogg to market cereals and breakfast foods based on Disney characters. In June, Keebler produced 51,000 floorstands to showcase Sesame Street Tickles snacks. Kellogg updated its single-serve snack tower with wire racks that hold additional product. Teamed with Cartoon Network allowing kids to pick a new Kellogg cereal based on 8 Cartoon Network characters, the new cereal launches in early 2002. "We're working on a category management system for Pop-Tarts, similar to what P&G did with Pringles," says Gerard Gausselin, manager of merchandising innovation for Kellogg.
