Tyson Foods last month introduced a frozen food line exclusively at Walmart. The manufacturer developed the Mix & Match Creations line to fulfill the mass merchant’s request for simple and affordable family meal solutions, according to a media release issued by Tyson to announce the launch. The line spans five Tyson proteins, six Tyson Bistro Flavors sauces and — in another collaborative move — loops in Pinnacle Foods’ Birds Eye to round out potential meals with eight vegetable or starch sides.Available in select stores, the products are merchandised in an in-line freezer bay customized with signage that emulates the color-coded packaging: red for meat, blue for sides and green for sauces. (See Images at right.) One decal promises “Dinner for 4, Starting at $10” and another touts “over 76 dinner combos.”An accompanying aisle violator distributes take-ones of recipes suggesting SKU combinations, such as breaded chicken and white rice with orange teriyaki glaze, or sauteed beef with bourbon peppercorn sauce and mixed vegetables. The violator also carries a QR code linking to a Tyson-operated website providing additional recipes, instructional videos and a store locator. A themed game lets visitors create their own combinations, with certain selections triggering recipes and chef’s tips.
