Procter & Gamble connects with the produce department this month in a promotion at Ahold USA's Stop & Shop and Giant Landover. The chains are offering frequent shoppers checkout coupons good for 30% off their next produce purchase when they buy $30 in P&G products. In-store support includes lobby displays of brands including Tide, Bounty, Downy and Pampers, as well as stanchion signs, ceiling hangers and checkout signs. Running through April 30, the promotion is featured in the chains' April 3 circulars and on their web sites. P&G is the latest packaged-goods manufacturer to expand its in-store presence by aligning with perimeter departments. Among recent examples, Kraft Foods has teamed with A&P for efforts in the produce and meat departments, and Masterfoods worked M&M's into Kroger's floral department. (See Related Articles.) Stop & Shop operates about 340 stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. Giant Landover operates about 200 stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
