Augmented Reality System Reacts to Motion

Tustin, CA -- Action-capture interactive technology that allows images and animation to respond to gestures and interact with ID tags on packaging has been introduced by RichTech Systems Ltd.The interactive system captures the viewer's motion, conveys it to the computer's software, and responds as the gesture designates. The options can include images that turn pages, scatter leaves or other materials as the motion is detected or provide touch-screen capabilities to show various product choices. Product tags also can generate a holographic image, which reacts to another nearby ID tab as well."The potential applications for the Augmented Reality system are to highlight products on shelves or in shop windows," explains Michael Huang, vice general manager. "Clients also can print logos onto a product's packaging, and customers will see 3-D animation appear on the package from a screen in front of them. They can even interact with these virtual animations." The system can be used as a wall display, floor graphic or tabletop.The Augmented Reality system comprises a small CPU, a projector to display the animated images and a video-capture sensor. Animation can include a company's logo, brand images or custom designs. Existing 3-D modules and animation can be imported into the system, Huang says, and the company will work with clients to create 3-D animations.An LCD screen and video camera/projector are used to create 3-D holographic RichTech Systems uses motion-capture sensors and holographic imagery to create wall, table and floor displays that respond to gestures and other movements. Images React to MotionWall, floor or table options respond to hand gestures and tags on packagingimages on packaging. The consumer removes the product from the shelf and puts the ID logo on the package before the sensor, which triggers the hologram to appear on the package. Audio also can be integrated and coordinated with the images. In one example, a carton of milk put before the sensor produced the image of a cartoon bull standing on top of the package; a second carton featured a cartoon cow. When the two were placed near each other, both put back their heads and lowed.
