Toys "R" Us has recruited toy manufacturers to create a line of exclusive pink products targeting female tweens. Hasbro has redesigned three of its classic games in a "Think Pink Game Collection" to better appeal to young girls. For example, the company created a Monopoly: Boutique edition in which players purchase boutiques instead of real estate and game pieces consist of sandals, purses and hair dryers instead of the traditional thimbles and top hats. The new SKU launched in time to be promoted as part of the chain's October tie-in with McDonald's Monopoly promotion. (See Related Articles.) Hasbro also produced Jenga: Girltalk Edition and Twister: Pink Edition for the Toys "R" Us initiative. Meanwhile, Mattell's Fisher Price division added pink SKUs for some of its popular products, such as a medical kit and a toy telephone. And VTech Holdings developed a pink touch-tablet notebook computer. The exclusive SKUs are merchandised in their respective departments. "Pink" features in the retailer's September, October and November circulars support. Toys "R" Us requested the exclusives because studies find that female tweens prefer pink products, according to the company. This preference was among five trends that the chain said it will address this holiday season. The other four were: "Hey! You're A Rock Star," recognizes the popularity of musical/sing-along toys sparked by American Idol and similar influences."Get up! Get Active!" reflects the shift toward "active" video gaming, as evident in Nintendo's Wii system."Internet Connectivity" points to products that introduce children to the Internet in a safe way.
