Whole Foods Market is spotlighting its wine department this summer with a "Sommelier Selects" campaign.The alternative grocer is the only national retailer to employ a master sommelier, tapping global beverage buyer Devon Broglie to pick a list of wines meant to pair with seasonal flavors. The SKUs, which are mostly priced at $18 or less, are merchandised in stores on table displays that also dispense one-sheets offering information on summer wine trends, pairing suggestions and a recipe for a wine cocktail. The retailer plans to release a new Sommelier Selects list for the winter holidays to replace its long running "Top 10 Wines" promotion.Whole Foods also tied in to the designation of June 10 as "National Rose Day" with Facebook and Twitter updates linking to a June 6 blog post from Broglie discussing the varietal and suggesting seven SKUs from brands including Meiomi Wines and Presto.
