Kmart Springs for Lysol, Coke

Kmart is warming up in March by hosting seasonal promotions from Reckitt Benckiser's Lysol and Coca-Cola.The retailer partners with Lysol for a "Spring Cleaning Kit" sweeps that awards one basket filled with $50 worth of Lysol products per store. Shoppers pick up and submit entry forms at Lysol endcap displays. (See Image at right.) Featured in Kmart's March 11 circular, the promotion began Feb. 27 and runs through March 26.Meanwhile, Kmart leverages Coca-Cola's sponsorship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Men's Basketball Tournament by offering a commemorative poster to shoppers who purchase two 12-packs of Coke products. Co-branded "March Madness" standees communicate the promotion.Elsewhere, Kmart recently announced two additions to its private label repertoire: The American Fare beverage line, which will contain 32 SKUs of water, energy drink, juice and tea, will roll out nationwide in April, while Champion Breed pet products --- including food, toys and litter for dogs and cats -- will launch in May.Kmart reported sales of $18.7 billion for fiscal 2006 (ended 2/3/07), a decrease of 2.3% from the previous year, as comparable-store sales dropped 0.6%. The retailer closed 28 stores during the year. Sales for fourth-quarter 2006 reached $5.9 billion, a 2.4% increase from fourth-quarter 2005, although comparable-store sales dropped 0.9%. A division of Hoffman Estates, IL-based Sears Holding Corp., Kmart operates 1,388 traditional, Big Kmart and supercenter stores nationwide (as of February 2007).
