Spalding Sweepstakes Invites Golfers to "Drive in Style"

A nearly life-size replica of a golf cart is a key component of the "Drive in Style" consumer sweepstakes and promotion launched by the Top-Flite Professional Golf division of Spalding Sports Worldwide, Chicopee, Mass. The merchandiser supports the introduction of the company's Top-Flite Magna EX and Top-Flite Hot XL golf balls and is "big and bold, consistent with our presence in the industry," according to Scott White, product manager for the company's golf ball line.Measuring 33 inches wide by 60 inches high by 65 inches deep, the corrugated golf cart replica holds 96 12-ball boxes of the Top-Flite Magna EX product and 288 15-ball boxes of Top-Flite Hot XL golf balls. It is available free to retailers who order the 96- and 288-box minimum and is easy to assemble -- retailers simply fold on the scored lines and slide in the tabs, which requires about 10 minutes.The golf cart display will be in stores from Nov. 1 through Jan. 15. It comes complete with entry forms and banners that announce the sweepstakes. No purchase is required to enter the sweepstakes, which is designed to stimulate trial by giving consumers the opportunity to win a variety of Top-Flite products, including the grand prize of a fully equipped 1996 Club Car golf cart.In addition to stimulating trial, Spalding's promotion is intended to provide retailers with a value-added display piece to showcase the new products, while maintaining a significant portion of floor space, and ultimately driving continuous sales."Promotions in the golf ball category of the golf industry are a way of life recently," states White. "Though we've launched aggressive promotions in the past, we've increased our promotion budget dramatically this year and are stepping up to the plate with this program, and with this display specifically."
