Southeastern Grocers' chains ran a "Slam Dunk Savings" campaign during March that tied into both the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I Men's Basketball Tournament and the National Basketball Association's regular season. In stores, stanchion signs positioned near the prepared foods department offered loyalty cardholders who purchased a pound of chicken wings a two-liter bottle of a PepsiCo soft drink and an extra-large bag of PepsiCo's Ruffles for an additional $2.99. A full-page ad in the March issue of the retailer's Flavor magazine plugged the offer while activating the manufacturer's NBA sponsorship. A feature in chain circulars on March 8 and a March 22 email ad promoted the same incentive. The retailer also offered loyalty cardholders $5 off the purchase of five SKUs from NCAA sponsors Mondelez International's Nabisco and Coca-Cola Co., plugging the incentive in the same email and with a feature in March 22 circulars.
