Member Report: AI Moves From Product Search to Purchase Influence
Artificial intelligence (AI) assistants are rapidly evolving from informational tools into active purchase intermediaries, with consumers increasingly relying on them to discover alternatives, compare specifications, and find lower prices and promotions, according to a report from Snipp.
Snipp recently surveyed 1,000 U.S. adults who regularly use AI-powered tools — such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot — to examine how AI is altering product consideration, promotional redemption and customer retention.
Key findings from the "AI and the Modern Shopper Journey" report include:
- AI drives direct purchase influence: More than 6 in 10 (61.8%) regular AI users have purchased a product after receiving an AI recommendation.
- Comparison and deal-seeking dominate use cases: More than 7 in 10 (71.3%) respondents have asked AI to find a promotion, discount, or deal, while 58.1% use AI tools to compare products — the single most common AI shopping activity.
- Discovery makes brand loyalty more fluid: Over 83% of consumers have discovered an unfamiliar brand or product through AI, and 39.4% state they are more likely to try new brands if AI consistently finds better value.
