McDonald's Brings Back Teenie Beanies

They're back. McDonald's Corp. is returning to its Teenie Beanie Babies program, the most successful "Happy Meal" promotion in the history of the company, with a new collection of toys. The promotion, which began May 22, features 12 Teenie Beanie Babies collectibles, developed exclusively for McDonald's by Beanie Babies creator, Ty Inc., Oak Brook, Ill. The Teenie Beanie Babies program, along with the accompanying P-O-P materials, shipped to over 12,000 McDonald's restaurants in the U.S. and 1,000 units in Canada."Last year was a huge success, but there was some confusion about which toys were offered at a certain time," says Amy Murray, a spokeswoman for the Oak Brook, Ill.-based burger chain. "So we're responding to our customers with our P-O-P to immediately let them know which Teenie Beanie Babies are being offered. We've also made available some different purchase options since we found last year that people wanted to buy the toys without the Happy Meal."During the promotion, three different toys will be offered at a time. Designed by The Frankel Co., Chicago, the P-O-P primarily focuses on allowing customers to easily identify which toys are available at any given time. Pole signs, banners and ambiance boards with 12 lug-ons that allow the featured toys to hang from the sign are designed to alert customers about the available toys, while large window posters and signage in the drive-thru area are easily visible from the outside. A countertop Beanie Babies Clubhouse shows all of the toys in a corrugated treehouse and is displayed next to cash registers.Last year's Teenie Beanie Babies promotion received such positive consumer response that many McDonald's restaurants ran out of toys within the first 10 days of the program. This year, the company doubled the quantity of toys available, though the actual number of toys produced is not being revealed. The promotion is expected to run four weeks or while supplies last.The new lineup of toys includes: Doby the Doberman, Bongo the Monkey, Twigs the Giraffe, Inch the Worm, Pinchers the Lobster, Happy the Hippo, Mel the Koala, Scoop the Pelican, Bones the Dog, Zip the Cat, Waddle the Penguin, and Peanut the Elephant.
