Waitrose Expands Partnership With Caffe Nero Coffee House

The U.K. retailer is bringing a new concept to select Waitrose grocery stores, and the first Caffe Nero to a John Lewis location.

Waitrose and John Lewis have inked new partnerships with The Nero Group, which owns and operates Caffe Nero coffee houses.

U.K. grocer Waitrose is unveiling a new sit-in cafe concept in five stores. The cafes' menus will feature dishes made from Waitrose recipes and coffee drinks specially roasted for the retailer by the Nero Roasting Co.

The first Caffe Nero is planned for the White City, London, John Lewis department store. The 1,500-square-foot store will seat 72 and offer a full menu of Caffe Nero's specialty coffess and deli foods.

The first Waitrose stores to feature the new cafe formats are Billericay, Godalming, Keynsham, Locks Heath and Stroud.

"We’re excited to build on our successful partnership with The Nero Group with the launch of our new cafes. The initial tranche of five cafes will offer the best of Waitrose food together with coffee from the Nero Roasting Co., in a welcoming environment," Charlotte Di Cello, commercial director for Waitrose, said in a media release. "Our stores are hubs for local communities across the country, and we know our customers love to have the option of enjoying a coffee, snack or meal after their shop."

The Nero Group and Waitrose first partnered in 2021. Waitrose customers who link their myWaitrose loyalty account to the Caffe Nero app they can earn rewards, save on select purchases and receive exclusive offers.
