Quick Sign Centers Expand

Dallas -- FedEx Kinko's has been expanding locations for its Signs and Graphics Centers, with the latest in Mesa, AZ, opening in March 2006. The Centers target the print-on-demand sign market and produce a wide range of options, including metal, plastic and magnetic signs; vinyl banners; posters; poster-size photo enlargements and large-format presentation materials. They also produce vinyl lettering, labels and decals. Customers work with in-store graphics professionals. One example of the customized signage possibilities offered is printing a 5-foot tall poster for a trade show. Customers also can design, print and laminate in-store signage and create an outdoor grandopening banner. FedEx Kinko's, best known as a quick printer, began offering poster and banner production capabilities in 1996, and wide-format, color sign production in 2002. In 2004 the company opened its first Signs and Graphics Center location in Austin, TX. Since then, locations have opened in Edina, MN; Orlando, FL; and Memphis, TN. "These Centers support customers nationwide by producing specialized, highvolume orders," says Lynda Robey, director of core products for FedEx Kinko's. "The opening of this fifth location represents a milestone in our expansion into signs and graphic services." In addition to these five centers, Kinko's now has 380 locations with dedicated signs and graphics departments that offer digital print and vinyl cut services. "Customers can place orders at virtually any U.S. FedEx Kinko's shop in the nation. In many cases, specialized or high-volume projects can be sent to the nearest Center," she adds. All locations are staffed by specialists in sign production. Although customers are responsible for establishing their own quality control guidelines, Kinko's helps them set up specific parameters to ensure the quality and consistency of printed materials. "One example is DocStore, an online tool that stores a company's most frequently printed documents," she explains. "This catalog allows authorized users to print customized materials while maintaining consistent branding guidelines." Robey says that P-O-P designers and producers, as well as retailers, should use the centers because they offer consistency nationwide. "We offer a national pricing structure, unified production standards and the latest digital printing technology. Convenient access to our many locations is another advantage."
