Interactive Screen Slides Over Shelf

Grand Haven, Mich. -- To get product messaging on track, Harbor Industries has developed the in-TRAC interactive LCD monitor, which uses 12 volts of direct current to show images and provide information as the consumer slides the monitor along a rail.As the monitor is moved in front of different products, the message changes as information about each item is provided. More information is provided the longer the monitor stays in front of a particular product, allowing the consumer "to 'drill down' and get more facts and details," says Deb Kelts, a Harbor Industries spokesperson. The system lets retailers display information for multiple products at a time.An optional touch screen is available as part of the design.Content can be delivered either through a Web-based connection, or via a compact flash card "which can hold up to eight gig of storage," says Kelts. "The flash card can be changed to update the content, and retailers can easily adjust the content sequence and change product placement."The monitor can tilt from vertical to a 90-degree angle to adjust for the line of sight, and can be mounted in a portrait or landscape manner without blocking the consumer's view of products."In-TRAC features flexibility in placement," Kelts notes. Designed to be incorporated in point-of-purchase displays, gondola shelving and slatwall, "It can easily be placed on walls or the front of shelves, or put in front of glass cases and end caps," she says. An optional maintenance program is available through the company.Harbor Industries will customize units according to customer specifications such as "rail length, 3-D graphics, product trademark colors, and backlighting," Kelts adds.Kelts feels in-TRAC is unique because it "affords the consumer the opportunity to get detailed information on the product of interest without having to read the fine print on the packaging." The units also can be used "as a training aid for in-store staff," Kelts adds, so the employees can keep up to date on product features.
