Colgate-Palmolive Co. is reshaping its go-to-market approach, placing digital transformation and modernization at the core of its strategy.

The CPG giant’s CEO, Noel Wallace, discussed this shift from siloed promotional spend toward full-funnel, data-led consumer engagement and more at this month’s Barclays Global Consumer Staples Conference.

The company is scaling enterprise-wide AI and advanced analytics to link localized digital media directly to the point-of-sale conversion. This strategy has proven successful in China, where e-commerce drives 50% of sales and AI generates thousands of personalized content assets each day to capture hyper-segmented demand.

Colgate-Palmolive is also restructuring its North American commercial organization to unite retail media, sales and brand marketing into a single team. By moving retail media out of isolated shopper marketing budgets and embedding it into overall brand architecture, this reset addresses a key point of friction in commerce marketing and is designed to maximize return on ad spend across key retail partners.

Other topics discussed at the conference include:

  • In-store promotions and pricing: The company is deploying targeted surgical couponing at select North American retailers to counter aggressive competitor promotions without resorting to margin-diluting price cuts — avoiding “a race to the bottom.”
  • Merchandising and premiumization: Colgate-Palmolive is driving growth through price-pack architecture and premium product rollouts — such as Fabuloso spray cleaners and Palmolive pumps — as it develops multiyear, customized innovation pipelines tailored to specific retail partners.
  • Hill’s Pet Nutrition Growth: The brand is outperforming a flat broader pet market with 4% volume growth, driven by veterinarian support, an aging U.S. dog population requiring therapeutic diets, and products tailored for Gen Z pet parents. It's rolling out Hill’s Fresh, a refrigerated line in the U.S. that focuses on single-protein, therapeutic formulations. backed by vet recommendations over short-term volume pushes.
