Walmart recently partnered with market researcher Quid to parse and analyze data about its 140 million weekly shoppers. The full report (see attached file at right) delves into how and why families' behaviors are changing based on Walmart transactional data and insights from the chain's shoppers, as well as analysis of news articles, parenting blogs and funding trends. It includes several interesting findings:Sales in the OTC department are up almost 10% in the past 24 months, with probiotic as one of the fastest-growing categories.Sales of foods with natural healthful properties like turmeric and garlic have grown 30% in the last 24 months.Walmart's store pickup service rose more than 100% year over year.Pre-cooked rotisserie chicken sales are up nearly 10% in the past two years, while sales of salad kits and slow cookers increased 20% and 10%, respectively, in the last year.Sales of scientific and educational toys increased by 24% in the last 12 months, while robotic or interactive playmates are up 14%.Sales of smart thermostats and security devices like camera-enabled doorbells soared more than 500% in the past 24 months.Home-improvement hardware rose 7% compared to last year, while home decor items are up 4%.
