Whole Foods Market’s first small format quick-shop store opened on Sept. 18 in New York’s Lenox Hill neighborhood in the Upper East Side.
The first Whole Foods Market Daily Shop, located at 1175 Third Ave., spans 9,101 square feet and is designed to serve fast-paced urban lifestyles through a convenience-style grocery concept.
“Opening this first Whole Foods Market Daily Shop location – which was specially tailored for the needs of an urban market like New York City – marks a special milestone for our company,” Christina Minardi, executive vice president growth & development, Whole Foods and Amazon, said in a company statement. Whole Foods has been in New York for more than 20 years, and Minardi said she’s excited to provide an “entirely new shopping format to better serve New Yorkers.”

The second Daily Shop will open at 301 W. 50th St., in Hell’s Kitchen, followed by another located at 409 E.14th St., in the East Village’s StuyTown development, and a national rollout. In July, Whole Foods revealed that Daily Shop stores will range between 7,000 to 14,000 square feet, or about a quarter to half the footprint of an average 40,000-square-foot store.
The Lenox Hill product assortment includes:
- More than 400 local products, from 100-some Northeast-based suppliers, including New York-based Family Farmstead Dairy, The White Moustache, Annie’s Ginger Elixir, Dam Good English muffins and Mill Hollow maple syrup.
- New-to-Whole Foods local brands, including vegan brands Jack & Friends and P-Nuff Crunch as well as Mimi Cheng’s dumplings.
- An exclusive Lenox Hill Pilsner from Talea Beer Co. The beer will only be available at this Daily Shop location.
- The retailer's only Juice & Java cafe concept in New York, serving coffee, tea, juices, smoothies, sandwiches, soups and desserts.
- New ready-to-heat sous vide entrees and sides from Whole Foods Market Kitchens, the retailer’s fresh food private label.
- Single-serve hot bowls and meals, including health-forward teriyaki salmon, falafel tahini and chipotle chicken grain and protein bowls.
- Whole Foods Market favorites, including a selection of fresh, seasonal produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods (e.g., sandwiches and pre-packed meals), breads, alcohol and supplements, as well as a curated range of local specialties and its 365 private label.
