Sunmark Joins Brands On Rolling Rack

Sunmark Inc., makers of SweeTarts, Bit-O-Honey and other familiar brands, has created a metal endcap rack that displays 18 of its items in less than four feet of selling space. The display marks the first time the company has ever combined all of its lines onto one merchandiser."Several of our customers pointed out that they'd like to display all of our products on one unit, so we decided to create a program that could achieve that in a flexible manner," explains Ed Ansel, group vice president for the St. Louis-based company.The resulting wire rack features six angled shelves on a steel frame on casters. Channel signs allow the candies to be identified easily. The lines represented include the company's David Sunflower Seeds, Nestle Quik candy bar, Laffy Taffy, SweeTart candies, Gobstopper chews and Nerds crunchy candy. Eighteen SKU's are included, with a total of 540 pieces represented.The rack was manufactured by Talbot Industries, Neosho, Mo. It comes as a single, welded unit requiring no assembly except for attaching the large, four-color header that features the characters that promote each candy line. Featuring the slogan "Awesome Eats," the molded plastic header measures 27 inches wide and 28 inches high. It was designed in-house and was printed by Stark Printing Co. in St.Louis. With the header in place, the rack measures 28 inches wide, 64 inches high and 19 inches deep.The program began rolling out in March to grocery, mass merchant and drugstores following a successful test-market campaign last fall in northern California, says Ansel. The display will continue as an on-going part of the company's display program, he adds, with production continuing as demand dictates."The display lets us pull together all of our brands for the first time and get more impact," he says. The casters give retailers the ability to position the display wherever they want, moving it regularly or employing it as a lane blocker to give it a high profile.
