Loblaw Integrates Its PC Express App Into ChatGPT
Loblaw Companies Ltd. is incorporating its grocery delivery app into OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot.
Leveraging Loblaw's PC Express app in ChatGPT and conversational AI lets Canadians explore menu ideas, select ingredients or choose suggested products from their store of choice for meal or event planning.
For example, a shopper can ask the chatbot to suggest a quick and easy family dinner for two adults and two picky children, or for help planning a princess-themed birthday party. Incorporating data from Loblaw's app, ChatGPT can offer a recipe and let the consumer select the ingredients, the store and fulfillment option.
"We have been on an ambitious path for the past few years focused on the digital customer experience and AI-forward technology adaption. The PC Express app in ChatGPT solidifies our position as a North American leader in artificial intelligence (AI) innovation within the retail sector," Lauren Steinberg, chief digital officer, Loblaw, said in a media release. "Loblaw is poised to redefine the shopping experience for Canadians by leveraging advanced AI technology and this collaboration underscores how we are empowering both consumers and colleagues with transformative tools that enhance their experience."
Loblaw began working on the app integration last fall, not long after ChatGPT parent company OpenAI said it was introducing third-party apps on the chatbot.
Many other retailers have recently begun working with ChatGPT, to aid shopping and product discovery, including Target. Walmart and Albertsons.
Loblaw also is equipping its colleagues with ChatGPT Enterprise to enhance productivity and spur innovation. The company already uses OpenAI models to build proprietary AI solutions, including Robin, an AI-powered assistant for store owners and managers. It also uses agentic solutions in supply chain management to keep better track of inventory and oversee logistics.
