Walmart to Ramp Up Use of Interactive Product Videos
Walmart is expanding its partnership with Eko, an interactive video technology provider, to significantly increase the presence of interactive videos on the retailer’s website and mobile apps.
Walmart, a “foundational” partner and investor in Eko, has implemented the company’s technology over the last 18 months and has increased sales across a variety of “high-consideration items” in the electronics, home goods, toys and baby categories, according to an Eko media release.
Walmart and Eko are set to continue their partnership throughout 2025 and plan to release “hundreds of thousands” of products on Walmart.com and its mobile applications, according to Eko.
Walmart’s initial collaboration with Eko back in 2018 was to create an online feature called The Walmart Toy Lab, where children could virtually play with 20 of Walmart’s top holiday toys.
Eko’s technology is designed to enhance the product detail page, which the company said has lacked innovation over the last 30 years, by making it more interactive for shoppers.
“When we first announced our partnership with Walmart, we were confident that interactive media would reshape e-commerce,” Yoni Bloch, CEO of Eko, said in the release. “Now, after years of experimentation, iteration and refinement, what we’ve long believed — that interactive video is the future — is happening now. The success we’ve seen with Walmart, the ultimate retail testing ground, confirms that we’ve cracked the code on how to make online shopping more immersive, engaging, and impactful.”
“It’s inspiring to see how our associates are leveraging Eko’s technology to make shopping with us more enjoyable and convenient,” added Doug McMillon, president and CEO, Walmart. “Around the world Walmart’s goal is simple: We’re focused on saving our customers and members both money and time. We will continue to leverage great tech to give them the best possible experience.”
