A modern grocery store concept is slated to make its debut next summer in Augusta, Georgia.

FreshTake will open its doors in a 42,000-square-foot location within Augusta’s Washington Crossing shopping center, previously occupied by Whole Foods.

The project is being led by Jackson Mitchell, CEO of Jackson Mitchell Holdings, which operates five Little Giant Farmers Market locations in the Atlanta area, and aims to blend convenience, dining and recreation in place.

"We are thrilled to introduce FreshTake to Augusta," Jackson Mitchell, CEO, said in a media release. “Our goal is to create a space that not only offers top-quality groceries, but also becomes a hub for the community, where people can come together to enjoy great food, entertainment and convenience."

FreshTake was designed to cater to the “diverse needs of the modern shopper,” by combining shopping and leisure activities, per the release.

FreshTake will include seating for 130 people, two outdoor balconies and a spacious mezzanine seating area above the in-store cafe with free Wi-Fi. Jackson Mitchell Holdings says the outdoor patio seating area will be a prime attraction and will include a walk-up barbecue smokehouse for lunch or dinner.

Patrons will also be able to sit by a fire pit outside or practice their golf skills on the five-hole putting green.

Another highlight of FreshTake will be "Jackson's," a beer and wine bar within the store. The space will offer 10 tap beers, wine and made-to-order sushi and bar food items as well as house 13 large televisions screens playing sports.

The store will also include:

  • an in-store sushi bar,
  • a beer cave called the "Ice Box,”
  • a pizza and pasta station,
  • a fresh juice and smoothie bar,
  • a make-your-own sandwich bar,
  • a full-service hot food bar,
  • an extensive assortment of bulk food items,
  • a large selection of imported cheeses, and
  • a variety of grab-and-go options.

FreshTake will also feature in-store butchers and a dedicated section for meat, categorized into prime, fresh, frozen and packaged selections. Notably, customers will be able to select their choice of fresh meat and have it prepared by in-store chefs with a "grill while you shop" option. The fresh seafood department will also provide free steaming services.

In addition to groceries, the store will offer a wide range of products, including health and beauty items, general merchandise and a full-service pharmacy.

The store will also offer Instacart pickup and delivery services, including for prepared foods, as well as catering services for large gatherings.
