DoorDash is making it easier for independent retailers to offer on-demand delivery by launching a direct integration with Shopify that allows eligible merchants to add their stores to the DoorDash marketplace without leaving the Shopify platform.

Available to U.S.-based Shopify merchants with brick-and-mortar locations, the integration enables retailers to activate DoorDash as a sales channel directly within Shopify's App Store. Rather than completing a separate onboarding process or manually uploading product catalogs, merchants can connect to DoorDash through their existing Shopify workflow, helping them reach local shoppers more quickly.

The integration marks another step in DoorDash's expansion beyond restaurant delivery as the company continues building its local commerce business. For retailers, the integration simplifies access to on-demand delivery while reducing operational complexity through automatic synchronization of product catalogs and inventory between Shopify and DoorDash.

"Local, independent retailers are the heart of local commerce, and they deserve tools that work as hard as they do," Mike Goldblatt, vice president of enterprise partnerships at DoorDash, said in a news release. "As the first on-demand marketplace that Shopify merchants can activate directly from their existing Shopify Admin, we're opening the door to retail merchants who can now reach their communities faster than ever."

According to DoorDash, onboarding through the new integration can be completed in days rather than weeks, allowing merchants to reach millions of DoorDash customers without changing their existing commerce workflows. Inventory updates also occur automatically, helping ensure product availability on the marketplace reflects what's currently in stock.

The integration reflects growing demand for faster, more convenient fulfillment options as retailers look to meet shoppers wherever they choose to buy.

The Shopify integration is launching in the U.S., with international expansion planned in the coming months.
