Asda is testing electronic shelf labels at one of its Asda Express convenience stores.

The U.K. grocer worked with Vusion Group to install 3,000 digital tags. Pricing changes can be made in as little as 15 seconds at the Oxford Road location in Manchester.

The trial, which is running for 12 weeks, is designed to simplify operations for employees and free up their time to meet customer needs.

The Manchester Oxford Road store is a high-traffic location, which will give the technology a solid stress test and provide valuable insights.

“We’re delighted to launch a new trial of electronic shelf edge labels, as we continue to invest in enhancing our in-store processes,” Chris Walker, managing director of Asda Express, said in a news release. “This ‘test and learn’ trial will not only help to simplify operations for colleagues in the store, but it will also provide us with valuable learnings that will shape future technology rollouts into stores.”

Asda previously tested similar technology at its Stevenage superstore, concluding the trial in 2023. The retailer aims to invest further in future tech trials for its Express format, which sells grocery and convenience SKUs.
