How Monster Used Sweepstakes to Boost Sales at Circle K
Why this matters: Energy drinks are one of the top drivers of convenience store trips, and as the category becomes increasingly competitive, Monster Energy is seeking to stay top of mind with shoppers by running account-specific sweepstakes at Circle K.
Where shoppers get value: Monster activated its sponsorship of the McLaren Formula 1 team with a sweepstakes awarding 10 trips to Austin, Texas, from Oct. 16-19 to attend the United States Grand Prix. The sweeps also awarded branded swag to 90 runners-up.
Shoppers entered from July 2 to Sept. 2 by purchasing a can of Monster at Circle K and uploading their receipt through a promotional page. GOcxm, Toronto, administered the promotion.
Monster Energy Canada is running an account-specific sweeps awarding three trips to Montreal for a session with former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre. Fifteen runners-up will get a pair of signed MMA gloves and digital Circle K coupons for a year’s supply of Monster Energy drinks.
Shoppers enter by purchasing a Monster Energy drink at Circle K from Sept. 16 to Nov. 10 and uploading a code through a promotional page. Burnaby, British Columbia-based Six12 Creative administers the promotion.
What we saw: Gas pump toppers touted the F1 sweeps, using a QR code to link to the promotional page. The sign also plugged a concurrent offer of three Monster drinks for $7.
