General Mills' Blue Buffalo launched a dog-friendly fireworks experience and tips to help consumers ensure their dogs stay calm and comfortable during America’s 250th (or 1750th in dog years) birthday celebrations this summer.

The brand partnered with Instacart for an exclusive summer offer to help pet parents stock up on food from the brand’s Love Made Fresh line and Nudges treats. From June 25 through July 17, shoppers can use the code "BLUE1750" to get $4 off a $20 purchase.

"America's 250th birthday is a once-in-a-generation celebration, but while fireworks are fun for people, large booms and neighborhood firecrackers make this one of the most stressful times of the year for dogs," Nicole Ayers, business unit director for growth accelerators for North America Pet at General Mills, said in a media release. “We know pets are family, and this year, we're helping pet parents bring less stress and more tail wags to the holiday with enrichment ideas and Love Made Fresh, turning the Fourth of July into a moment the whole family can enjoy.”

Starting July 1, consumers could help their dogs tune in to the brand’s YouTube channel to view a five-hour animated experience featuring soothing sounds and visuals inspired by dogs’ favorite things — treats, toys and food. (See video below.)

Developed with guidance from canine cognitive scientist Dr. Evan MacLean, the experience is designed to help keep dogs distracted and comfortable during firework displays, including letting dogs choose where they feel most comfortable, utilizing food and play during the fireworks to give them something purposeful to do.

The program offers ideas of how consumers can incorporate Love Made Fresh products into a dog’s routine during this and other big events, such as building a ritual with a treat during any loud noises, helping them feel safe throughout with proper nutrition and water, and offering a calm and quiet environment after.

The brand is also offering social efforts on TikTok and Instagram, where pet parents could get real-time support on the Fourth of July by tagging or direct messaging the brand for tips, distraction ideas and expert advice.
