Best Buy, Nintendo Court Gamers With 'GameTruck Theaters'

The retailer builds excitement for the Nintendo Switch 2 and games with immersive parking lot activations.

Following its late-night store opening event for the Nintendo Switch 2 release, Best Buy has kicked off another experience to lure gamers to stores this summer.

Over 10 weeks, Best Buy is bringing “GameTruck theaters” to more than 100 stores across the U.S. to promote the Nintendo Switch 2 system, which launched on June 5.

Beginning June 7, the special events take place on Saturdays in select Best Buy parking lots. A large Nintendo-themed truck promotes games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza (releasing on July 17). Inside the truck, consumers can play Nintendo games via screens and headphones and experiment with new Switch 2 features.

Outside the truck, a table display and tent doles out Nintendo-themed giveaways, such as stickers, and other promotional materials. 

The GameTruck will travel to multiple cities in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas and other states.

Best Buy’s Late-Night Switch 2 Release

Best Buy opened nearly all of its stores at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 5 for gamers eager to purchase the new Nintendo Switch 2 console. Some Best Buy associates greeted shoppers in Mario and Luigi-themed hats.

The retailer also gave out limited-edition commemorative coins that feature both Best Buy and Nintendo branding to the first shoppers to grab the console.
