Walmart Debuts Beauty Expert Role

Walmart beauty expert pilot program
Walmart is currently piloting the Beauty Expert program, a new career path that could enable associates to provide professional, personal guidance to better serve customers.

Walmart's investment in new employee opportunities now includes a pilot program at 22 stores in Texas and Arkansas enabling participants to turn their passion for beauty into a profession.

These are Walmart’s first-ever Beauty Experts— a new career path that, if adopted company-wide, will enable associates to provide professional, personal guidance to better serve shoppers.

"As more customers seek a better beauty experience at an affordable price, these experts are the key to helping ensure the service feels just as premium as the store’s elevated space and assortment," Walmart noted in an online blog post.

Beauty Experts receive immersive, specialized training at one of the company's 200 Walmart Academy facilities, with such courses offered as Makeup 101 and Customer Engagement 101. Trainees learn the science behind skin care routines, how to ask the right questions to understand what a customer actually needs and the techniques to help someone navigate more than 7,000 products.

They'll also receive ongoing monthly and quarterly training materials on product knowledge, seasonal needs, customer engagement and top-trending items.

"This deep expertise empowers associates to become leaders in ways that touch the entire store," Walmart noted. "Their commitment to the customer doesn’t stop in the beauty aisles. They may also bring their knowledge to life by supporting store-wide beauty events or becoming the problem-solver who makes sure customers can place a perfect online order."

The company added that programs like the Beauty Expert initiative provide proof that when companies empower employees with a career that is fulfilling and fun, they create better experiences and spread confidence to everyone they meet.
