Snapple to Stage Comedy Event on Ferry in New York
Keurig Dr Pepper’s Snapple brand is transforming New York’s decommissioned Staten Island Ferry into a free, floating comedy club this month in an effort to give consumers a break from their daily grind.
The one-day-only, 60-minute live comedy event on Sept. 17 will mark the first time the brand has partnered with co-owners and comedians Pete Davidson and Colin Jost since they purchased the well-known commuter vessel.
From Sept. 3-8, fans could earn their spot on what the brand has dubbed the “Snapple Island Ferry” through its daily ticket drop at a dedicated Snapple site. Consumers could get a maximum of two tickets to board the ferry, which docks at New York’s Pier 17.
To encourage fan engagement, Snapple will release the night’s lineup on its social channels leading up to the show. The brand will also share clips and content from the event on Instagram and TikTok so fans everywhere can experience the live standup performances.
"The Snapple Island Ferry is a simple idea with a big payoff: Take what people already love about Snapple's personality and bring it to life in the real world," Brad Smith, Keurig Dr Pepper vice president, marketing, stills & hydration portfolio, said in a media release. "The brand has always had a refreshingly funny take on the everyday, and comedy gives us a clear way to bring that to life — by giving people a timely, entertaining break from the things they feel like they should be doing."
The brand’s first-of-its-kind effort gives it a chance to connect with consumers in a unique way that pairs well with the comedians’ messaging to fans.
"Turning the ferry into a floating comedy club with Snapple makes more sense than anything else we considered, and it still doesn't make much sense," Davidson said. "Either way, we're giving people a chance to take a break, have a laugh and do something completely ridiculous with us."
The floating show is hosted by Davidson and Jost and produced by The Stand Group, a comedy, entertainment and hospitality company that co-owns the ferry alongside the two comedians.
On-board consumers will experience Snapple beverages and snacks while hearing some of comedy’s rising stars.
