Albertsons Gets Executive Ducks in Two Rows

Albertsons LLC this month began fleshing out the executive team that will manage its namesake chain and other former Supervalu banners when their sale to a consortium led by Cerberus Capital Management closes next month.The new company, which will encompass the existing Albertsons LLC operation (see "Supervalu Throws …" in Related Articles), will be called AB Acquisition and consist of two segments:Albertsons LLC, to operate all of the roughly 600 Albertsons stores. The unit will add a Northwest division covering Northern Idaho, Oregon and Washington to complement the four divisions already in place at the separate Albertsons chains, according to a media release.New Albertsons Inc. (NAI), which will manage the 375 stores in the Acme, Jewel-Osco and Shaw's/Star Market chains along with all pharmacy operations (including Albertsons).As previously announced, Albertsons LLC chief executive officer Bob Miller will head up the entire company as ceo of AB Acquisition. Chief financial officer Rick Navarro joins him to retain the same role, and senior vice president Andrew Scoggin becomes the executive vp of human resources and public affairs.Each of the business units will be overseen by a chief operating officer. Former Albertsons LLC evp of operations Bob Butler will head up that unit, while former chief strategy officer Justin Dye becomes coo for NAI.Among other corporate-level appointments:Supervalu vp of pharmacy services Daniel Salemi was named pharmacy division president.Albertsons veteran Amy Kirby, who had been vp of sales and marketing at print signage company Pangea, returns as vp of marketing.Jerry Callahan moves from a divisional role to become vp of produce merchandising.The new division-level lineup also boasts all former Albertsons employees and, in effect, returns a number of people to the roles they held at the retailer before its 2006 acquisition by Supervalu. Presidents for the two divisions are:Albertsons LLC:Dennis Bassler, Northwest (estimated 120 stores). Bassler, who joined Albertsons in 1981, is a former svp of marketing/merchandising.Susan Morris, Intermountain (75). Morris, who started at the company in 1985, has been vp of marketing/merchandising in the Southwest.Wayne Denningham, Southern California (215). Wayne, who started in 1977, is currently Southern division president.Mike Withers, Southern (88). Withers, who started in 1976, currently is that division's vp of marketing/merchandising.Shane Dorcheus, Southwest (104). Dorcheus, who joined the company in 1980, retains his existing role.NAI:Jim Perkins, Acme (98 stores). Perkins, whose 24-plus years at the old Albertsons Inc. included a stint as vp of operations, returns from a regional vp position at Ahold USA's Giant-Landover.William Emmons, Jewel-Osco (174). A 39-year Albertsons vet whose tenure concluded as Southern division president in 2010, Emmons is coming back from retirement.Shane Sampson, Shaw's/Star Market (103). Sampson, who spent 23-plus years at the company, also returns from Giant-Landover, where he most recently was svp of operations. His Albertsons past includes two stints as a division president.
