Adonis, a Metro-owned Mediterranean and Middle Eastern supermarket banner, opened its fifth store in Ontario and 16th overall on Aug. 14.

The 46,488-square-foot location in London is the second-largest store to date. It has a new look — including a palette of subdued earth tones that make produce and other vibrant SKUs pop — that will extend to future sites as well as to existing locations upon undergoing renovations.

Stores typically have approximately 34,000 products, and the new one includes a vast assortment of ready-to-eat items, fruits and vegetables, everyday essentials, brands from both Canada and around the world as well as specialty departments.

In addition to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fare, the store also includes a large number of local and Canadian brands as well as South Asian products, due to the London area having a large South Asian community in addition to a strong Middle Eastern population.

The store also has a pita production facility, where shoppers can buy fresh bread.

Like most other Adonis locations, the London store includes counters and departments offering specialty products and prepared foods, both local and international, in categories such as meats, fish, deli, cheese and dairy as well as olives, nuts and spices. The store also boasts a large selection of fruits and vegetables as well as desserts, including Middle Eastern pastries.

To help promote the launch, the banner teamed with local influences, including My Life in Canada (mylifeincanada_official), who attended the grand opening and shared to her social media. Adonis also held a sale and offered samples. The retailer regularly offers samples throughout the year, inviting customers to try new products.

The 3245 Wonderland Road South store is located in the Westwood Power Centre along with a Home Depot, Winners, Sport Chek and Sephora. It marks the chain’s first expansion beyond Ottawa, Montreal and the greater Toronto area.
