2023 Valentine’s Day Gift Shopping Trends
Over half of shoppers plan to keep Valentine’s Day affordable this year, according to Breaktime Media.
Breaktime surveyed 985 shoppers on their Feb. 14-related activities, including spending, what they’re buying and where. Grocery stores are the most popular place for survey respondents to shop for the holiday. Walmart comes in second followed by a tie for third place between Amazon and Target.
A total of 60% of respondents indicate they’re shopping in-store for Valentine’s Day, compared to 16% online and 24% doing both.
When selecting important factors for their shopping activity, 28% selected “nothing specific,” 26% selected cost and 16% selected flavor.
Half of the respondents indicated their favorite Valentine’s Day treat is chocolate in general, followed by chocolate-covered strawberries at 18%.
Breaktime Media shared the following best practices for marketers to reach shoppers:
- Inspire purchase with recipes showcasing delicious ways to use your brand’s products.
- For the 60% of shoppers who make purchases in-store, include a store locator to help them easily find the closest retailer to them that carries your product.
- Encourage shoppers to share how they’re using various brands to celebrate their loved ones by implementing a social giveaway.
- Use a list to educate shoppers on the quality and flavor profiles of your brand’s products.
