Lowe’s Unveils In-Store Apple Vision Pro Pilot for Kitchen Design

Lowe's Style Studio launched on the Apple system in February. It will be tested this month at stores in North Carolina, New Jersey and California.

Home improvement retailer Lowe's will debut an in-store Apple Vision Pro-powered kitchen design experience in three test locations this month.

The virtual design experience, dubbed Lowe's Style Studio, launched on Apple Vision Pro in February. It enables customers to visualize and design their dream kitchens using spatial computing inside an immersive 3D scene built from preset styles curated by Lowe’s designers.

Apple Vision Pro's intuitive input system, which is controlled by a user's eyes and hands, allows shoppers to customize hundreds of real-world materials, fixtures and appliances, which Lowe’s says includes 80 billion possible design combinations, according to a media release. All products are available online, in store or via the mobile app.

Once a customer has found a preferred design, they can save their style selections, email, text or AirDrop them as a PDF to whoever (e.g., third parties such as contractors or designers). Customers can also schedule a one-on-one appointment where a dedicated store associate will guide customers through the process.

"Lowe's has a history of breaking new ground in our industry, and being the first home improvement retailer to offer an Apple Vision Pro experience in select stores is an exciting step in our omnichannel journey," Seemantini Godbole, Lowe's executive vice president, chief digital and information officer, said in the release. "We believe Apple Vision Pro can enhance in-store kitchen design experiences, empowering our customers to visualize their dream kitchens using advanced spatial computing technology."

The pilot will launch in select stores. First, it will kick off in Lowe's hometown at its Central Charlotte, North Carolina, store, from June 8-12. From June 22-25, the experience will be available at stores in North Bergen, New Jersey, and Sunnyvale, California. An online booking tool will be available in these markets, and Lowe's will also accommodate a limited number of walk-ins.

Style Studio is the latest development from Lowe's Innovation Labs, a team focused on exploring and accelerating the future of home improvement through emerging technologies. The organization has developed other features like Measure Your Space, a room measurement tool for the iPhone; experiences like Lowe's Product Expert, a custom GPT that delivers home improvement product recommendations via generative AI; and its interactive AR-enabled “digital twin” store.
