On Nov. 29, Nestle Purina Petcare debuted a holiday-themed vending machine at the pet-friendly Westfield Century City Mall in Los Angeles, doling out free dog and cat treats.

Available through Dec. 24, the machine includes a digital touchscreen that asks shoppers a few questions about their pets to determine which treat Purina recommends, from brands including Beggin', Prime or Dentalife treats for dogs, and Fancy Feast savory treats or Friskies party mix for cats.

After the questionnaire is completed, a treat that matches the dog's or cat’s personality is immediately dispensed. For example, the brand says Prime dog treats are perfect for dogs that crave adventure, and Dentalife is ideal for dogs that “steal the spotlight with their smile,” according to a news release.

"We're thrilled to launch Purina's free treats vending machine in hopes of spreading 'Seasons Treatings' to as many pets as possible," said Purina senior brand manager, Tim Brunt, in the release. "Shopping for holiday gifts can be a challenge, but we hope that the Seasons Treatings vending machine will make it a little easier for pet parents."

Purina is trying to expand the impact of the vending machine and personalized treat experience by encouraging pet parents to post a photos of their pet enjoying their treat on social channels using #PurinaSeasonsTreatings. Some of the photos may be featured on Purina’s own social media channels throughout the holiday season.

The vending machine is located near the Westfield Century City's expansive annual Holiday Market, which runs Nov. 25-Dec. 24.
