Valentine's Day Shopping Trends
Chocolate remains the clear CPG winner of Valentine's Day, according to Breaktime Media.
Breaktime surveyed shoppers to find out how they’re preparing for the Feb. 14 holiday, including where they are making purchases. A total of 20% of survey takers selected Walmart to find a gift. Grocery stores followed at 18%. Third place went to unspecified other locations, while 14% selected Amazon.
Of those who responded, 46% indicated they would spend less than $40, followed by 20% planning to spend between $40 and $60.
While a quarter of respondents selected sentiment as the most important factor when purchasing a Valentine's Day gift, 17% said there is no particular factor that is a priority.
Food and candy are the top holiday gifts to give or receive, capturing 40% of responses. Coming in second place was experiences at 16%, followed by stationery and greeting cards at 12%.
When looking further at treats, chocolate is the clear favorite with 57% of the vote. Tied for second place was baked goods and chocolate-covered strawberries with 11% each. Champagne garnered 6% for third place.
