Tesco has brought back its Accelerator Programme, with 16 brands selected for a year of mentoring.

The cohort becomes part of the Tesco Initiative, which introduces small and trend-led brands into the U.K. retailer.

The program provides a comprehensive yearlong mentoring, learning and development experience focused on growth. As part of the selection process, Tesco looked for brands led by individuals from under-represented backgrounds. Ten of the companies are diverse or women-owned. Brands that are committed to reducing their environmental footprint across the supply chain and supporting healthier lifestyles also feature heavily among the chosen 16.

"We're really excited to announce a further 16 brands as part of our Accelerator Programme," Rachel Hann, head of Innovation and Express Product Strategy at Tesco, said in a statement. "We're passionate about supporting diversity within our supply base which reflects the communities we serve across the U.K., and these new brands add to the fresh and inspirational selection from our first cohort earlier this year. We can't wait to see how customers respond to them."

The brands are Aagrah Foods, Arden Grange, Better Nature Tempeh, Bold Bean Co., Fearne & Rosie, Jake & Nayns’, Jiddler’s Tipple, JNCK Bakery, Neat, Nutriburst, Piccolo, Pooch & Mutt, Seep, Super Foodio, The Gut Stuff and Wha Guan.

The initiative launched in February with 27 brands vying for the opportunity to be stocked in Tesco supermarkets and online. It replaced the Tesco Incubator Programme and included a new dedicated innovation buying team offering brands direct support.
