Fourth of July Shopper Trends
Price-conscious shoppers are sticking to summer staples for the Fourth of July this year, according to Breaktime Media.
Breaktime surveyed consumers on their July 4 habits, including their favorite items to grill and where they shop for the holiday.
More than 50% of respondents selected grocery stores as their preferred channel for Fourth of July necessities. Walmart came in second with 24% of the vote, followed by club stores with 10%.
To complement various grilled meats, shoppers turn to potato salad, chips and dip, and corn on the cob as their preferred sides for the holiday.
Nearly a third of survey takers said price is the most important factor when purchasing food items for the holiday. Flavor was the next popular response at 25%, while trust in the brand came in third with 10%.
More than half of shoppers (53%) say food and beverages are a must-have for their July 4 celebration. From there, it drops to 14% choosing grilling supplies and 11% selecting fireworks and sparklers.
While 39% of respondents indicated they sometimes or always purchase themed or patriotic products for the Fourth of July, another 25% would buy the items only if they were on sale.
To consider trial of new products for their July 4 gathering, 44% of shoppers said a sale price or coupon would help. Another 24% said they’re not likely to try new products for the holiday.
