What Halloween Shoppers Want
Walmart and grocery stores account for almost 60% of the shopping destinations for Halloween, according to Breaktime Media.
Breaktime surveyed shoppers on their Oct. 31-related habits, including how much they typically spend on candy and their favorite type of treats to purchase.
Chocolate is the dominant confection with 61% of respondents selecting it. The second most popular item was candy corn with 5%, followed by unspecified snacks and gummies/fruit chews tied for third place with 4% each.
Nearly half, or 47% of respondents, indicated they spend between $10 and $30 on Halloween candy each year. That was followed by 22% of the group that spends $31-$50. The third-place pricing range was less than $10, selected by 15% of participants.
About 30% of survey takers said that special deals and promotions are the top factor influencing their choice of Halloween candy. Price overall ranked second with 25% of the vote, followed by flavor at 23%.
