  • Lord of the Rings Floorstands

    Client: Houghton Mifflin Co., New York
    Comments: Houghton Mifflin produced a variety of floor displays and countertop units in Fall 2001 to coincide with the movie release of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings." The display on the far left features a life-size die-cut standee of the Gandalf character and merchandises "The Lord of the Rings" novels. The display on the right features the book series in addition to movie guides and visual companions.

    Comments: Designed to increase sales of travel guide books for European travelers, this corrugated display merchandises eight different titles and holds 32 books.

    Client: Yankee Publishing Inc., Dublin, N.H.
    Comments: Each year, the header on this floorstand gets updated with new graphics to market the latest "Farmer's Almanac" and calendars. The basic design remains consistent in order to keep production costs down.

    Client: Wizards of the Coast, Renton, Wash.
    Comments: The holographic foil header on a floorstand for R.A. Salvatore's "Sea of Swords" catches the light to highlight the name of the author. Both the base and the header were designed to be durable enough to last through the holiday season.

    Client: Scholastic Book Fairs, Lake Mary, Fla.
    Comments: Because this display must be moved frequently to different Scholastic book fairs in schools, it was designed with casters for easy mobility and hinged panels that swing open for quick set-up. Interchangeable graphics and durable aluminum construction help to extend the life of the permanent display. The company is testing 22 of the displays this spring and will evaluate a broader rollout based on reaction from the field.

    Comments: This floorstand for Random House's "Atlantis" books high-lighted the company's first major tie-in with Disney. Multi-level litho lug-ons and vibrant color helped to draw attention at retail.

    Comments: This display has been a hit with retailers since Sept. 11 because it provides additional display space for newspapers and magazines, according to Christopher DeMarco, senior manager of merchandising development. The unit holds 40 two-liter bottles and 30 12-packs of Pepsi products.
