Whole Foods Market joined with grassroots online marketplace Etsy to expand its holiday purview beyond meals to gifts.A microsite on etsy.com is devoted to gift ideas curated to appeal to the alternative grocer's shoppers. Products are divided into categories such as "tabletop," "cook's tools," "bar & wine" and "holiday decor." The microsite also hosts eight exclusive crafting tutorials from Esty sellers that also are showcased in a holiday microsite on wholefoodsmarket.com. A Nov. 2 post on the retailer's "Whole Story" blog, an ad in a Nov. 20 email and Twitter updates have promoted the collaboration.In stores, Whole Foods is selling a limited-edition reusable bag designed by an Etsy seller for $1. A two-page spread in the November/December edition of The Whole Deal in-store magazine offers additional crafting guides from Etsy while promoting the bags.Some stores also are hosting events with Etsy artists, such as an "Etsy Holiday Craft Day" held at a St. Paul, MN, location and a "Tweet Up with Etsy" Twitter chat organized by Boston-area stores.
