Sam's Club got help from J.M. Smucker Co. and PepsiCo in August to tout the advantages of buying back-to-school needs in bulk.A "Lunches for less" webpage (housed within the "In Clubs Now" section of samsclub.com operated by Triad Retail Media, Tampa, FL) lets visitors mix and match lunchbox-friendly SKUs and calculate their cumulative cost per lunch based on the warehouse club chain's prices. For example, a sandwich made with J.M. Smucker's Jif peanut butter and Smucker's strawberry jam would cost about 33 cents per lunch or 65 cents when paired with a bottle of PepsiCo's Aquafina water and Quaker Chewy granola bar. Users can provide their phone number to receive a link to a mobile-optimized shopping list of their ideal lunch combination, or they can check the items' availability online and place an order through the retailer's e-commerce portal.Elsewhere on samsclub.com, Kellogg Co.'s manufacturer showcase touts an annual back-to-school promotion offering free books in partnership with Scholastic Inc. Kellogg supplies the retailer — and sister chain Walmart — with custom packaging delivering “super codes” redeemable for a free Scholastic book. (See "Kellogg Is All ..." in Related Articles.)Meanwhile, a display ad on the chain's home page spotlights Hallmark Cards' Crayola crayons and Wenger’s SwissGear backpacks under a "Prep for success" message. The ad links to a samsclub.com page grouping various back-to-school essentials for “Mom,” “College,” K-12” and “Teacher." Among the spotlighted brands are Jif, Kraft Foods Group's Kool-Aid, Procter & Gamble's Olay and General Mills' Totino's.In other cause activity, Sam's Club joined with Kraft Foods Group and Tyson Foods in August for the partners' annual "Be a Hunger Hero" campaign. Throughout month, members were able to "help feed a child in need" with the purchase of select SKUs from the manufacturers. The two states with the most pledges also received a truckload of protein-rich meals from Tyson Foods. A promotional samsclub.com page supported.In stores, account-specific pallet displays from SC Johnson's Ziploc tout the brand's participation in General Mills’ “Box Tops for Education” program, stocking exclusive SKUs each delivering eight Box Tops credits. A list of other Box Tops brands carrying the bonus credits is available on a promotional page (operated by Pleasant Ridge, MI-based HelloWorld) that promised members 70 "eBoxTops" credits with each purchase of three eligible products from Aug. 1 and July 3, 2015. An Aug. 18 Facebook update from Box Tops for Education and display ads on samsclub.com supported.Samsill and Kube also provided customized pallet displays; national displays from SwissGear rounded out the seasonal theme in stores. In addition to staging free health screenings for children, the retailer distributed child safety ID and DNA kits along with dental tablets at Aug. 11 events held in the 565 clubs with pharmacies.
