7-Eleven is expanding its e-commerce presence again by partnering with San Francisco-based Tapingo to offer on-demand delivery to college students.Select 7-Eleven stores near participating California, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland college campuses now offer on-demand home delivery through the Tapingo mobile application. Eligible products range from chicken wings and Slurpee beverages to yogurt from Chobani as well as Coca-Cola Co. products. Delivery fees are currently set at $2.99 for 7-Eleven customers.“We’ve seen a tremendous demand from students for late-night eats. Sometimes, you just need a Slurpee and a pizza at 1 a.m.,” said Tapingo's chief business officer Jeff Hardy in a media release. “Welcoming 7‑Eleven to our rapidly growing partner ecosystem significantly increases our ability to provide students with what they want, when they want it. The 7‑Eleven brand is synonymous with convenience, and that’s exactly what our community looks to us to provide.”The retailer hopes the partnership will help the company better appeal to digitally savvy college students.“7‑Eleven products that particularly appeal to college-age consumers include whole pizzas, chicken wings and other hot foods, sandwiches that are made fresh and delivered daily,” Raja Doddala, 7‑Eleven vice president for innovation and ventures, said in the release. “They also like ice cream, energy drinks and 7‑Eleven’s own 7-Select-branded snacks because they are higher quality and lower priced than name-brand competitors.”The Tapingo partnership is the retailer’s third venture into e-commerce, following on the heels of partnerships with Postmates in July and DoorDash in September.
