7-Eleven has ended its sponsorship of Indy Racing League driver Tony Kanaan after eight years. The convenience store chain had been the primary sponsor of the Andretti Autosport No. 11 car driven by Kanaan in the IZOD IndyCar Series since 2003. The retailer will continue in 2011 as an associate sponsor of Andretti's No. 7 car, which is driven by Danica Patrick. 7-Eleven has had a relationship with Patrick since she joined Andretti in 2006, and signed an associate sponsor agreement in November 2009.The chain has used Kanaan in various promotions over the years, recently enlisting both he and Patrick to greet the participants of a "Road Trip Rally" in Indianapolis last spring. (See "7-Eleven Field Report: May 20, 2010" in Related Articles.) As the most prominent among a handful of female drivers, Patrick delivers a high profile for the chain -- especially among its core young-male customers.
